At Calibre Furniture, sustainability isn’t an afterthought — it’s central to how we design, source, and produce every piece. We work with skilled artisans and trusted manufacturers around the world who share our values of quality, fairness, and long-term responsibility.
From our sourcing office in Melbourne to teams on the ground across Asia, we maintain close relationships with our partners to ensure everything is made with care — for people, materials, and the planet.
Ethical Sourcing & Fair Labour
We’re committed to building a transparent and ethical supply chain that protects workers and promotes responsible practices at every level.
Our commitments include:
- Full visibility of our manufacturing partners through regular audits and close engagement.
- Expanding transparency into lower-tier suppliers to promote responsible sourcing.
- Working only with partners who provide fair wages, safe conditions, and zero tolerance for exploitation.
- Building long-term relationships based on accountability, trust, and mutual respect.
As we grow, we continue to raise the bar on ethical standards — ensuring everyone involved in crafting our furniture is treated with dignity and fairness.

"By holding ourselves and our partners to high standards, we're creating a supply chain built on transparency, responsibility, and lasting positive impact."
Responsible Partnerships
We collaborate with suppliers who reflect our commitment to integrity, sustainability, and social responsibility. Our review process ensures every partner aligns not just on quality, but on the values that matter most.
As of 2025, we are:
- Strengthening our onboarding process with enhanced sustainability and ethical sourcing assessments.
- Auditing certifications and working conditions to ensure alignment with our environmental and social benchmarks.
- Prioritising suppliers who are actively improving practices in materials, labour, and waste reduction.
By holding ourselves and our partners to high standards, we’re creating a supply chain built on transparency, responsibility, and lasting positive impact.
Materials That Matter
Thoughtful materials are the foundation of lasting design. Every decision we make — from timber to textiles — is guided by a commitment to sustainability and transparency.
Timber
Timber is central to our collection — valued for its strength, warmth, and timeless appeal. We're working to ensure the wood in our products is traceable, certified, or recycled.
Our approach includes:
- Sourcing timber from responsibly managed forests or verified recycled sources.
- Collaborating closely with our supply chain to improve traceability.
- Minimising deforestation and promoting forest protection.
Our progress:
- Currently: Over 70% of our timber is traceable, recycled, or certified sustainable.
- By 2030: 100% of our timber will meet these standards across all collections.

Textiles
We’re rethinking the way we use textiles — choosing materials that reduce waste, energy use, and environmental harm.
Polyester is a key material in our textile and upholstered ranges due to its strength, durability, and versatility — especially in our velvet collections. However, we recognise the environmental concerns associated with virgin polyester.
Our progress:
- 85% of our polyester velvet is already recycled
- 25% of our broader polyester range includes recycled content
- 35% of our cotton comes from more sustainable sources, including certified organic and recycled suppliers
- By 2030: 100% sustainably sourced key materials — including all textiles and upholstery — through a blend of recycled, certified, and traceable input.
Animal-Derived Materials
We use a small selection of leather and wool, and we do so with care. All animal-derived materials must meet our minimum sourcing standards, and we’re actively working to improve traceability and ethical oversight across these categories.
Material Innovation
We’re investing in the future of design by exploring next-generation materials — from waste-based composites to renewable fibres and low-impact dyeing processes. These innovations help reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining the quality and beauty of our products.
Packaging With Purpose
Packaging protects your furniture — but it shouldn’t harm the planet. We're transitioning to smarter solutions that balance durability with sustainability.
What we’ve achieved (as of 2025):
- Reduced packaging volume by over 20% since 2021
- Cut polystyrene and virgin plastic use by over 30%
- Increased use of recycled and recyclable paper-based materials
Our 2030 target:
- 100% of packaging to be made from recycled or recyclable materials across all product lines.
We know sustainability is a journey — and every step matters. From materials to packaging, we’re committed to designing furniture that feels right for your space, and for the world we share.
Designing For A Circular Future
We know that welcoming something new often means parting with something old — but that doesn’t have to mean sending it to landfill.
At Calibre Furniture, we’re working toward a more circular model that keeps furniture in use for longer and reduces waste across the lifecycle.
Our approach includes:
- Exploring partnerships with local donation and rehoming networks to make it easier for customers to give pre-loved furniture a second life.
- Improving our returns and refurbishment processes to ensure returned pieces are repaired, reused, or responsibly recycled.
- Designing for durability — so furniture can be enjoyed for years, not seasons.
Our long-term goal: To keep more furniture in homes and workspaces — and out of landfill — by supporting a more circular, sustainable future for interiors in Australia.

Progress, Not Perfection
Sustainability is not a destination — it’s a journey. We're committed to continuous improvement; being transparent, acting responsibly, and making better choices every day.
From materials to partnerships, every product is chosen with care and designed with sustainability in mind.
Our priorities remain clear:
- Eliminate unnecessary plastics.
- Collaborate with like-minded, responsible makers.
- Champion a better way to design, source, and deliver furniture.
The journey continues — but our promise stays the same:
